Question- how do you make a million dollars in the RV industry? Answer- borrow 2 million.

RE: Laptop burned out BUT........

What OS are you running? Debian Lenny, x86_64 The first few lines of the kernel message output on booting: chris@phoenix-debian:~$ dmesg Initializing cgroup subsys cpuset Initializing cgroup subsys cpu Linux version 2.6.30-bpo.1-amd64 (Debian 2.6.30-6~bpo50+1) (nobse@debian.org) (gcc version 4.3.2 (Debian 4.3.2-1.1) ) #1 SMP Mon Aug 17 08:42:50 UTC 2009 Command line: root=/dev/sda1 ro iommu=noaperture quiet KERNEL supported cpus: Intel GenuineIntel AMD AuthenticAMD Centaur CentaurHauls BIOS-provided physical RAM map: The whole thing is way to long (and boring) to post, but it detects the bios first, then APCI, Northbridge,CPU, PCI, USB, then detects pretty much everything else (graphics last on my install). It can be set to not go through all of that, but it only takes a few extra seconds to boot, so I leave it alone. The line: root=/dev/sda1 is the one that might have to be edited for the physical disk, if it isn't sda1, but that's easy on boot.

RE: Laptop burned out BUT........

There is a simple explanation for the BSOD. When you install the OS, whatever it is, it sets it up to run with all the current hardware. When you pull the drive off and plug it into a different machine and try to boot up, all the drivers and settings are expecting to see the hardware they were intended for. So when it is loading the drivers and it gets to a completely different item, such as chipset, mass storage devices and so on, it stops dead in its tracks and cannot continue loading because the item it is looking for is not present. Hmm- my OS detects the hardware on each boot, and with the exception of *some* graphics devices, I can pull the hard drive out and put it in another computer and it will boot just fine- though it might dump you to a text mode screen if a graphics driver is missing, but it won't crash. The only caveat is the boot device order and terminology, though that is easily editable.

I have a web page here dealing with that problem.

RE: Marshall Changeover Regulator

The pressure will equalize, but there won't be any real transfer of LP, just a bit of vapor.

RE: Marshall Changeover Regulator

It's basically 3 regulators- 2 first stage regulators and a final stage. The 2 first stages are one for each hose, and the lever (or sometimes knob), simply adjusts the regulator springs, changing the pressure. The regulator on the "service" side (where the lever is pointed to) will be set to a higher pressure (I believe around 10-20 psi), so the "reserve" tank regulator will "lock up" because the pressure is higher than the set point) and not allow any LP to flow until the tank pressure on the service side falls below ~10 psi, at which point the indicator pops up and the reserve tank is used. With the lever in the middle position, you are just using LP from both tanks. Probably more than you wanted to know :).

The 7916 II is a furnace- he gave the model in the first post.

RE: atwood heater problems

Sounds like it needs a good cleaning.

RE: inverter removal

What is the make and model of the inverter? I would tend to agree with having it fixed, as electronics usually fail very early on, and if they make it through the warranty period, they should last pretty well. It's hard to get a stand alone charger that does as well as the better inverter/charger combos.

RE: Carrier exiting RV market.

No, RVP is a completely separate company, and I would bet very unlikely to go under, or stop serving the RV market.

Carrier exiting RV market.

From RV Business- Air-conditioner manufacturer Carrier Transicold, Farmington, Conn., will stop supplying RV OEMs with units in mid-December. ”We are fulfilling orders through Dec. 18,” said John Shaw, Carrier communcations manager. ”It was the result of an in-depth strategic review of the business. We decided it was the right thing to do.”

RE: Gmail forawrding issue - Need solution

I'm thinking if you don't forward, but instead use Gmail to collect the mail via pop, you can set it to send as your other account, as Gmail knows you own the "from" email account. I use Gmail to collect all of my accounts (though I use a client to fetch them from Gmail), but I see in my Gmail account setting an option to set the "from" field- either to the Gmail name, or the name of the original receiving account.

RE: 2 volt deep cycle batteries

I have one customer who has them. The idea is that parallel setups, the batteries never receive an equal charge. A picture of his setup: http://bryantrv.com/images/temp/2voltbattery.jpg

RE: Cheezy Plastic Shower Faucet?

Phoenix make a brass direct replacement, or you could do some work and install a single lever one from a big box home store.

RE: onan sine wave?

I would use a good UPS on it- one that is frequency as well as voltage sensing, but it will be fine.

RE: LED Lights-What Works

One thing to keep in mind is that 1156 bulbs are not recommended for most RV fixtures, 1141 bulbs are, which are about 2/3 the output (making the difference in light output greater).

RE: Love this forum BUT

I run Debian Linux and did the suggested fix, which did make a huge difference..... for a while. Now the forums are hit or miss- if it loads at all, it loads fast, if it doesn't load, it doesn't load at all. Most times if it shows "waiting for rv.net", I just hit refresh and bam- it's there, other times- usually if I'm posting- I have to hit stop, refresh, then submit. Yet other times it works fine but the pop up that shows while posting just gets stuck. I'm still trying to figure out some of the page source code, like (brackets removed so it will display)- map name="Map" area shape="rect" coords="124,4,281,58" href="http://www.atvsport.com/" /map What's up with that? It's lines 23-27 in the page source code.

RE: Isn't Windows Great?

FWIW, the pic is of a Bendix G-15- from Wikipedia: The Bendix G-15 computer was introduced in 1956 by the Bendix Corporation, Computer Division, Los Angeles, California. It was about 5 by 3 by 3 ft (1.5m by 1m by 1m) and weighed about 950 lb (450 kg). The base system, without peripherals, cost $49,500. A working model cost around $60,000. It could also be rented for $1,485 per month. It was meant for scientific and industrial markets. The series was gradually discontinued when Control Data Corporation took over the Bendix computer division in 1963.

I would download the service manual from HWH and go through it- they're pretty good.
